Lepidoptera collection of Robert von Bonsdorff
This dataset has never been published
Robert von Bonsdorff (1907-1992) was a medical doctor who devoted a large part of his life for collecting butterflies and moths. He donated his collection, now with supplements containing about 960 species and over 12,000 specimens to the City Museum of Lahti, his home town. In 2011 the museum decided to relinguish this collection to the Finnish Museum of Natural History where the material will be better maintained. Prior to delivery to the FMNH, Digitarium digitised the entire collection.
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 13,186 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Download the latest version of this resource data as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A) or the resource metadata as EML or RTF:

The collection was digitised at Digitarium in 2011-2012. The collection came in three large cabinets with 60 boxes in total. All boxes were photographed as whole. Every specimen was photographed with labels. Data was interpreted from labels into a database. After photographing the specimens were placed in units by species, and the collection was thus disassembled for delivery to MZH. Also see the external link to the Blog of Mika Pajari about the digitisation effort (only in Finnish).
